Rain Bird participated last week in the 10th anniversary of National Golf Day in Washington, D.C., organized by We Are Golf, a coalition of golf’s leading associations and industry partners including GCSAA, NGCOA and CMAA.

The event kicked off April 25th with over 100 golf industry leaders volunteering in a community service project on the National Mall that focused on beautification, preservation and helping the National Park Service with deferred maintenance. Chris Granger, District Sales Manager for Rain Bird International-Services Division, and Carolyn Maloney, Channel Marketing Manager for Rain Bird Golf, were volunteers at the project.

Running from the Capitol building to the Lincoln Memorial, the newly restored 18-plus-acre National Mall includes a Rain Bird IC System with EAGLE 900® series rotors. Utilizing Rain Bird technology, the Stratus II Central Control operates the IC system over a secure internet connection from a main office several miles away from the mall. For remote operation and diagnostics, the grounds crew uses the Rain Bird MI Series mobile controller for watering while on site. Other Rain Bird technologies at the National Mall include Smart Pump, Rain Watch and Smart Weather with a weather station.

They spoke with each of their state’s representatives about the game’s 15,000-plus diverse businesses, tax revenue creation, tourism, environmental sustainability and the fact that one in 75 U.S. jobs is impacted by the golf industry.

“Celebrating our 10th anniversary was an historic moment and significant milestone for the golf industry,” said Steve Mona, CEO of World Golf Foundation and administrator of WE ARE GOLF. “The game’s economic, charitable, environmental and fitness benefits echoed throughout Capitol Hill as we shared golf’s contributions, both locally and nationally, with our country’s decision-makers.”
